Vlogsy is a camera app for filming a day, one clip at a time. It works with no account at all, and when it has no account nothing you film leaves your phone.

What stays on your phone

Until you sign in, everything — the video, the audio, the transcript, the coordinates, the day itself — is stored only in the app's own container on your device. Signed out, nothing you film reaches us at all.

Once you are signed in, what leaves the phone depends on two things: where you filed the day, and whether you subscribe.

• Days you film into a space are uploaded, so the other people in that space can see them. That is the point of a space, and it does not depend on subscribing.
• Days kept as Only me are uploaded only on Vlogsy Pro, so that losing or replacing your phone does not lose them. On the free tier they stay on the device and are never sent to us — which also means that if you delete the app, they are gone.

What we store when you sign in

• An identifier from Sign in with Apple. Apple gives each app an opaque subject identifier for you. That string, and only that string, is what links your account to your Apple ID. We never ask Apple for your email address, no request carries one, and there is no column in our database to put one in — so Apple's private relay costs this app nothing.
• An account identifier. A UUID. It is written on every clip you film, which is how a shared day can say who filmed which piece of it.
• A display name. The name you type, or the one Apple offers on first sign-in. It is shown to the other people in your spaces so a clip has a name against it. You can change it at any time in Profile.

What we store when a day is uploaded

This covers any day that leaves the phone — one shared into a space, or, on Vlogsy Pro, one of your own. For each clip in it we store:

• The video and its audio. The recording itself, kept in private object storage. It is served back only over short-lived, signed links, and only to people who are members of the space it belongs to.
• Coarse location, if you allowed it. One approximate coordinate per clip, requested at roughly one-hundred-metre accuracy with a fifty-metre distance filter — enough to draw your day as a map of where you went, not enough to say which room you were in. Decline the prompt and clips record with no coordinate at all.
• Text you wrote or said. The day's title, a clip's caption, the name of a space, and the transcript. Transcription runs entirely on your phone using Apple's on-device speech recognition — your audio is never sent anywhere to be transcribed. The resulting text does sync with the clip, so that searching a shared day finds what somebody said in it.
• Technical details of the recording. When it was filmed, how long it is, its dimensions and orientation, which camera was used, the loudness measured off the audio (used to level a day so one clip isn't twice the volume of the next), and where you trimmed it.

The permissions the app asks for

• Camera and microphone — to record clips. Without them there is no app.
• Location, while using the app — for the coarse coordinate described above. Entirely optional.
• Photo library, add only — to save a finished day to your camera roll when you ask it to. Vlogsy never reads your photo library.
• Speech recognition — for on-device transcription. Optional; clips record fine without it.

Who can see any of it

Your own days, nobody but you — a backed-up day is stored for you, not shared with anyone, and there is no way to invite a person into it. A day you filed into a space is visible to the members of that space and to no one else. A space is invite-only: someone in it mints a link, and the link expires after seven days. There is no public feed, no discovery, no way for a stranger to find your days, and no sharing with anyone else — no advertisers, no partners, no analytics companies.

Two companies necessarily handle data on our behalf: Cloudflare, which hosts the service and stores the media, and Apple, which authenticates your sign-in. Neither is permitted to use any of it for their own purposes.

How long we keep it

• Clips and days are kept until you delete them — or, in a space, until another member does.
• Deleting a clip removes it for everyone in the space, and its video file is erased from storage by a job that runs every five minutes.
• Invite links expire seven days after they are created, and can be revoked sooner.
• Sign-in sessions expire and are rotated; signing out revokes them immediately.
• Reports are kept as a record of what was reviewed and what was done about it.

Deleting your account

Open Vlogsy, tap the gear on the calendar screen, then choose “delete account”. No email, no web form, no waiting on us.

The moment you confirm it, the account is gone: your sessions are revoked, you are removed from every space, and the link between your Apple ID and this app is severed. Your clips are marked deleted straight away — they disappear from every other member's device on their next sync — and the video files themselves are swept out of storage by the same job that runs every five minutes. Signing in with Apple again afterwards creates a brand new, empty account; it does not bring the old one back.

If you only want to leave one space, leaving it stops you seeing that space and stops the space seeing anything you add from then on.

Reporting and blocking

When you report a clip we record who reported it, the clip and space it was in, the reason you chose, and any note you wrote, so that we can review it. When you block someone we record that you blocked them, which is what stops their clips loading for you. See the Terms of Use for what we do about a report.

Children

Vlogsy is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them. If you believe a child has an account, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top changes with it and the app will tell you the next time you open it.
